How it works
Copy the video link
In the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
Paste it and pick a format
Paste the link above, then choose MP4 and the quality you want.
Download the file
When the file is ready, press Download. It saves to your device's Downloads folder.
Choosing a resolution
Higher resolutions look sharper but take more space. 720p is the default: it's crisp on a phone and still reasonable in size. Choose 1080p for a laptop or TV, and 360p or 480p when you're saving data.
MP4 files are saved with H.264 video and AAC audio, the most widely supported combination. You don't need an extra player or codec: the file opens on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and smart TVs. If a video isn't available in the resolution you pick, you get the closest lower one.

Which resolution should I pick?
720p is a good default for phones. Pick 1080p for large screens, or 360p–480p when you want small files.
Will the video play on my phone or TV?
Yes. Videos are saved as H.264 with AAC audio in an MP4 file, which plays on practically every device without extra software.
Is 4K supported?
Not at the moment. The highest resolution available is 1080p.
Does the MP4 include sound?
Yes. The audio track is included in the file.
Why is my video lower quality than I selected?
If the video wasn't uploaded in that resolution, you get the closest lower one. A 720p upload can't become 1080p.
Is there a length limit?
Videos up to 3 hours can be downloaded. Long 1080p videos make large files, so check that your device has space.
