When WAV is the right choice
WAV stores audio without compression. Editors, samplers and DJ software can work with it directly, and nothing more is lost each time you export. Choose WAV when the audio is going into a project, not just into your headphones.
It's worth being clear about what WAV can't do: YouTube's audio is already compressed, and turning it into WAV doesn't bring back detail that was removed. The benefit is that no further loss happens from here on.

Is WAV better quality than MP3?
WAV loses nothing in the conversion, but it can't restore what YouTube's compression removed. For listening, a 320 kbps MP3 sounds practically the same. WAV is for editing.
Why are WAV files so large?
Because the audio is uncompressed: about 10 MB per minute. An hour-long video becomes a file of more than 600 MB.
What sample rate and bit depth do I get?
16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo PCM. It opens in Audacity, GarageBand, Logic, FL Studio, Ableton, Premiere and practically any other editor.
Can I use it in DJ software?
Yes. Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor and VirtualDJ all accept WAV. The title and artist are saved, but WAV can't hold cover art.
Is there a length limit?
Videos up to 3 hours can be converted. Keep in mind that a long video makes a very large WAV file.
